Exploring and Developing
Continuing Ukulele is intended to help you expand your bank of skills in the three main areas: strumming (varying your rhythms); finger-picking (techniques and patterns); and melodic playing (solos and duets). The repertoire will be mostly, but not exclusively, popular music chosen to highlight a particular technique or style which can then be applied to other music. Some fundamental music theory will be explored in order to better understand the music we’re playing. This class can be taken more than once as the repertoire and specific techniques will change on a monthly basis. I like to think of this as an exercise class, a place to practice and push your playing skills in order to get them into top shape.
Objectives for Continuing Ukulele:
- Learn interesting songs and solos
- Build your bank of strumming and finger-picking patterns and variations
- Develop your melody playing skills by tackling interesting and challenging material
- Help you get out of a rut of always playing the same thing in the same way
You will get the most out of this class if you are comfortable with basic strumming and singing, have done a bit of finger-picking in the past, and know the basics of tablature notation (even if you feel like you’re not that good at it yet!).
Beginner Part 2 is a perfect introduction of the necessary techniques you’ll need to enjoy this class.
Course materials will be provided.
